Dance Genres

Picture
Ballet
Ballet is a classical dance form demanding grace and precision. Formalized steps and gestures in intricate, flowing patterns help to create expression through movement. Ballet is also a theatrical art form using dance, music, and scenery to convey a story, theme, or atmosphere.

Creative expression and individuality comes through as the dancer becomes more familiar with the movements. It is a beautiful art form that requires self-discipline and dedication.  It is the foundation to other dance genres, such as jazz, lyrical, modern dance, and ballroom.  Daily class training will help establish total body awareness and alignment, core strength, flexibility, and creative intuitiveness.

Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary
Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary is a combination of dance: ballet, jazz, and social dances. Students will learn jazz technique along with the importance of a proper warm-up, strengthening techniques, flexibility, and musicality. This class is a great form of dance for any age. Students are also encouraged to study ballet for the best possible jazz dance experience. This class will jump start your child’s journey into the world of dance as a discipline and as an art.  Lyrical Jazz, contemporary, and modern dance is a combination of jazz and ballet.  They involve more emotion and feeling and require the dancer to put their self in an expressive role as they dance.

Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a high energy class tha infuses the lates styles of streetdancing, breaking, popping, and locking.  Classes will encourage student to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.  Hip hop helps dancers isolate their body to make their movents look sharp, sequential and accented, or smooth and fluid.  Students will learn stylized moves for the feet and arms. Indivudiuality and personality start shine as dancers become more familiar with the moves.
B-Boying/Breaking/Breakdancing
B-Boying or Breaking, also called Breakdancing is a style of street dance that originated among African American and Latino youth, many former members of the Black Spades, the Young Spades, and the Baby Spades during the mid-1970s. Breakdancing was further developed by Puerto Rican youth in New York City in the late 1970s to the early 1980s.[1] While diverse, b-boying consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, footwork, power moves, and freezes. B-boying is typically danced to hip-hop, funk music, and especially breakbeats, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns.
